Reviewed by Paul Kent

This beautifully constructed album attempts to provide the modern Church with a fresh batch of hymns to be used in congregational settings. In doing so, it has redefined the standard of hymnody both lyrically and musically. The sweet, melodic and often epic sounds drive the listener on a deeply worshipful journey. The songs are skillfully arranged and the choir have the correct balance of power and beauty with a little help from Lou Fellingham (Phatfish). Well written, well recorded and obviously inspired by God, this CD is also highly practical. Being an enhanced CD means that if you put it in a computer you will be greeted by a well designed interactive menu that allows you to easily access and print overheads and musical scores of all the songs featured on the album. This collection of songs comes as a breath of fresh air to an area of worship which at times seems stagnant through neglect. The one criticism is that it can be difficult to access the audio tracks through a computer (it will of course play fine through a CD player), but this is a downside to any enhanced CD. I like it a lot and I'm sure you will too. Excellent.

Hymns for the modern church put together by two well known British producers.

Still You Speak has been inspired by a renewed passion in the UK Church for modern worship songs in a more traditional style. The album features 12 new songs written for our time, that owe a great debt to the Hymn writers of the past in terms of form, melody and language, with strong theological themes that bring together the traditional and the modern church.

As well as songs written specifically for the project by Paul and Jonathan Veira, Still You Speak also features new versions of Graham Kendrick’s Through Days Of Rage And Wonder, the breathtaking Joanne Hogg & Phil Hart song, Pierced, and Jonathan and Paul’s collaboration, The Promise of His Grace, one of the highlights from Jonathan Veira’s latest album Rhythms Of The Heart. Featured soloists on the album include Jonathan Veira, Mal Pope, Esther Alexander and Lou Fellingham.

'I've had the privilege of singing some of Paul's material over the years, and I rate him highly as a lyricist and composer. This collection of contemporary hymns reinforces my opinion'.
- Sir Cliff Richard OBE

'Paul Field's skill as a songwriter shines through this refreshing and inspired collection of original hymns and songs. The orchestral colourings create a magical tapestry of sounds that enhance the thoughtful and relevant texts, all brought to life by a variety of musical styles - something for everyone.'
- Paul Leddington Wright; Conductor, BBC Songs of Praise
