As a general rule, any albums released on Rhythm House/True Tunes tend to be cracking! Big Face Grace continues to prove the rule with a well-constructed CD. Fluid pop rock from a funky five-piece who only formed with a view to ministering to youth and have stayed true to their vision. This is their second album and two things immediately impress – vocalist Timothy Gillespie’s soulful rock voice and the funky guitar vibe pervading all the songs which turns this from another pedestrian pop rock album and propels it into something compelling. If you’re looking for top tunes, top musicianship and plenty of atmosphere, it’s here! The title cut is built around some wonderful wah-wah guitar whilst “Floored” is a sensitive ballad complete with intertwining guitar figures. Actually fluid guitar is the name of the game here as the opening “Television” has some blistering moments. But this is more than just a guitar album, the overall feel is that BFG have managed to capture their own distinctive sound and though there are a couple of tracks that miss, there’s loads that hit! Not sure about the dance remix of “Smile” and “The Way” but hey!
