You might have read recently on the Cross Rhythms website about this singing pastor from Buffalo, New York and this is his album released in 2012. It's certainly an intriguing set, opening with a narrative, D'Mott says, "In my opinion God is grey/Don't try to figure him out/He's certainly too magnificent to be black or white/He's too majestic to be put in a box." He follows up with "Over And Over" in a silky voiced tribute to God's faithfulness. "Friend", a laid back R&B number featuring a subtle drumbeat and harmonies, was D'Mott's first single release. "God Is The Way" with its gritty semi-autobiographical lyrics was part of 'The Scroll' movie soundtrack. The album's highlight, "No Maybe" opens with a steady pulsating rhythm that sets the tone for soulful vocals and harmonies emphasised in the chorus, "There's no maybe, no question/If he said it, it shall be." The jazz, soul and R&B influences and contemporary beats give the album a wide appeal though unfortunately the mix is substandard meaning that several songs sound cluttered and mar complete enjoyment. But there is much here to admire and as bells toll and drums beat out a discordant rhythm on the final track, "Heaven", the soulful tone of D'Mott really connects.
