Reviewed by Mike Rimmer When Superchick erupted on to the music scene, they were a genuinely exciting band with a fresh sound that wasn't easily pigeon-holed. After a brief opportunity of getting into the mainstream after their music has been featured on film soundtracks and gathered industry admirers at their door, the deal didn't really come off. The consequent deceleration has probably not helped the band's momentum. 'Rock What You Got' is packed with some of the elements that have made the band popular like a pop punk dance hybrid that is infectious and a desire to write songs that minister to their audience. But somehow this feels less cutting edge and makes less of an impact than previous releases. It's also pretty short for a modern release, even when it's padded out with a remix of their last single and some guitar showing off from Dave Ghazanian. "Crawl" is a prayerful ballad. The title cut is probably the best here and songs like "Alive" and "One More" have the usual frenetic sound. In the end, after the promise of earlier releases, it feels as though Superchick are not delivering on their earlier potential. More from SuperchickSee all...
