Reviewed by Paul Poulton Spanglish is a fusing of Spanish and English, it's a kind of street language used by Hispanics in the US and some parts of the Americas. It's starting to be taken seriously as a bona fide language, it's also a great idiom for reggaeton. Christafari's Mark Mohr here pulls together an interesting and exciting CD of the Latin music/reggae/hip-hop synthasis. Mark always seems to get excellent depth of field into his recordings, he creates a spectrum of sound which is full yet has plenty of umph! The parameters to reggaeton are broad, there will be moments that you recognise from your hols in Spain, not too far from "Hey Macarena" but also Latino grooves that lend themselves beautifully to fast spoken Spanglish. There is of course a lot of genuine Spanish on here too, providentially a language I speak, but for all the lazy gringos out there who didn't listen to their Spanish teacher at school, there's some English too. An out of place violin on Funky's "Lo Que Traigo Es Flow Remix", ("That Which I Bring Is Flow, Remix", I didn't say it made sense, think Spanish and it works okay.) Anyways the violin is real neat. This CD is a lot of fun, I like it a lot. (Me gusta Mucho.) If you like this, you might also be interested in these...
