Reviewed by Phil Thomson Can an album sound cheeky? I reckon so, in a sophisticated way. Executive producer Tim Marshall has culled Miss Mullen's considerable output to achieve a certain lightness of touch here, with each track topping the one before in demonstration of just how good this lady is. The title track, reprised for almost six live concert minutes at the end, is alone worth the effort. The (mostly) studio songs quite simply draw you in and teasingly hold on to you, with their infectious insistence on being soulful, edgy and downright confessional. There's the possibility you could be swaying, tapping and tearful at the same time. It's Nicole's silky sweet voice, full of warmth and yet just a little bit haunting, those ensemble bvs who sing their heart out in support - and absolutely beautifully constructed arrangements every time, down through the years - all pace, tenderness and energy at just the right moments. Spanning 2000 till 2006, there are songs from 'Nicole C Mullen', 'Talk About It', 'Live From Cincinnati: Bringin' It Home' and 'Everyday People' - in all, 17 quality songs you are likely to return to on a weekly basis. I know I will. More from Nicole C MullenSee all...

Just to be pedantic. Nicole is married to songwriter, producer and blue-eyed soul man David Mullen, so actually she is Mrs Mullen - she used to be Miss Nicole Colman
