I would love to have a look through Paige Lewis's music collection - or rather her parents' records because at 17 she is too young to have bought some of the things that have undoubtedly influenced her and her writing. Yep - she wrote the whole album - music and lyrics - and not in a "co-written by" way. Vocally she has a lot of Alanis Morrisette about her - the same edgy passion and down-the-line delivery. "Not So About Me" is a modern take on a ska stomper with horn-driven verse; "Darkness Into Light" has a Mellotron-based chorus reminiscent of the Beatles and track four "True" has a real mid-'70s Peter Frampton feel. Although you feel like you're never very far from pop territory it is a solid, grown up sound that really does seem to be at odds with her tender years. My personal favourite is "Precious" - a thoughtful drum and piano piece with an exceptional lyric; "Why do I take for granted the love that you bled ?". Let's hope that Nashville's finest let Paige continue to write and record as she wants to. As a debut album this points the way to a career and ministry that will have a significant impact on Christian music. As a little bonus the CD also contains the promo for "Power In Your Hand" as a Quicktime clip.
