On The Air by The Donut Man - Rob Evans
Reviewed by Jennifer Brooker
One of a series intended to "help children (age range 2-8) come into God's presence." For those who have not had the misfortune to meet them before, the Donut Repair Club - six clean cut, clean limbed young Americans - are so called because life without Jesus is life with a hole in the middle. The story line for this episode is the kids putting on a satellite TV show and learning on the way that they don't need to be the stars because the real international star is Jesus. A neat idea, which this low budget production fails to realise. When the devil appears as a down and out (cue the country music as he trashes a house left empty while the owners are away on holiday), we are right back in middle-America. Reactions from test audience were interesting: "They can't even spell doughnut"..."My brain's turned into a doughnut"..."Our doughnuts don't have holes in the middle: they're full of jam." Lastly, as the credits rolled, the smallest child - who had been expecting a video about the Lord: "Jesus is coming on in a minute." Clearly he had not been helped into God's presence.
