Recorded in May 2006 at the New Life Church, Colorado Springs, this two DVD set features worship led by Ross Parsley and the wonderfully named Desperation Band. The worship session that forms the main programme on disc one lasts in excess of an hour and a half, and if you throw in a documentary feature about the New Life mega church and a bunch of outtakes plus a set of worship tools for four of the 15 songs on disc two, then this becomes seriously good value. The music is a mix of high octane praise (and these guys can rock!) and anthemic worship, everyone in the congregation is on their feet pretty much all of the time, and it struck me whilst I was watching that lots of churches attempt to create an experience like this, but very few have the resources or indeed the talent to succeed in achieving it. The material is nearly all in house, written by Ross and his fellow worship leaders Jared Anderson and Glen Packiam (who bears more than a passing resemblance to the legendary Rich Mullins - but I digress), and the only borrowed song is the old worship chorus from the 1980s, "Jesus, Name Above All Names" which brings proceedings to a suitably reverent conclusion. It's beautifully shot, well edited, the sound quality is excellent and the next best thing to actually having been there.
