Spoken Scripture and electronic chilled out music from a British musician. |

Reviewed by Adrian Cherrill Following on from the first volume of 'Molten Meditation', as well as a couple of appearances at Greenbelt, comes Robin Vincent's second collection of meditational music. Five further chunks of Scripture set to a background of PC-based music designed for a variety of uses from personal to corporate worship via cell groups. Given the ease of access to music creation software these days you might expect this to be the output of someone's afternoon in front of a computer screen but far from it. For the genre the music itself is excellent; it's well thought out, has a surprisingly good variation in sounds and instrumentation and rises and falls in intensity in pretty much all the right places. It wouldn't sound out of place on an Ibiza Chillout compilation like 'Café Del Mar'. What lets it down slightly is Robin's voice. In many respects spoken word is harder than singing, especially when the setting requires a particular atmosphere. Whilst some of this can be done during mixing (and is here), not every voice will work and on a number of occasions Robin's somewhat nasal speech isn't quite right (it actually sounds like he had a cold). That said, the editing is clever, with various parts of the passages repeating and echoing through each of the five tracks (all weighing in at over 10 minutes each). There's no real standout track, all of them are equally as good, making this a worthwhile find if you want something to spiritually chill out to. More from Robin VincentSee all...
