"Matthew 28", as well as being a chapter in the Bible, is also a stirring song written by Shawn McMullen and performed by Donald and the Tri's. The song begins with a pokey motif, which grooves well in a 1980s gospel-music-meets-Jimmy-and-Carol-Owens kind of way. It then pulls back to almost a story-telling style and never really gets going again. But no matter, the story is gripping in itself. In fact all the tracks on this nice spread of songs are pretty fine in their own way; they are tight and punchy, encouraging and engaging. All in all, I like it a lot. Some of the live renditions may be the teeniest bit indulgent and slightly ragged around the edges but no one could doubt the passion being demonstrated. These songs can be found on earlier albums, but if somehow you have missed this splendid choir with its gifted director/composer then this is the album with which to make their acquaintance.
