Ever since the 'Hungry' album became that huge international best seller, the whole Church has been looking at the British worship leaders and musicians from Vineyard churches in the UK as a particularly impressive bunch. This album, recorded live in Hull, commemorates the abolition of the slave trade 200 years ago and with William Wilberforce born and bred in Hull these songs of spiritual freedom have a particular resonance. But leaving that dimension aside, this is worship music of the highest quality. Although it was cut live, production brothers Dan and Matt Weeks have come up with a sonically impressive sound while in several cases the versions of these songs here better the original studio cuts. On no song is this more obvious than the haunting mid tempo "Come Lord Come". On 'New Songs Vol 2' I hadn't even noticed the track but now Wendy O'Connell's keening vocals and the pumping arrangement make this a must for radio play. Elsewhere worship leaders Kate Cooke, Matt Chalke, the always reliable Nigel Briggs and Matt Turrigiano (who does a great version of the American song "Bless His Name") all register. One of the best worship albums of the year, I suspect.
