There's a great start with Matt Redman's "Beautiful News" and Tim Hughes' "Happy Day". You might already own the artists' albums but hearing them sung live with an enthusiastic congregation gives new life to these excellent songs. There are 30 tracks here on two discs, and if you want a collection of contemporary live worship from all the main UK events (Grapevine, Soul Survivor, Newfrontiers amongst others) then you can't beat the 'Live' series from Kingsway. Highlights? Difficult to choose as it depends what you want. Delirious?-style stadium worship? Check. (Simon Brading's and Matt Redman's "The God Of Time And Eternity"). Exuberant gospel? Check. (Smokie Norful's "Celebrate" and Mark Beswick's "Make A Joyful Noise"). The overall style is, of course, pop/light rock praise and intimate ballads of worship. And why not? It works for me, and it will work for the many people who will buy this stirring compilation. The set is well packaged with full lyrics included though one quibble is the worship leader for each track is listed but not the event it was recorded at. There's been a real effort to have as varied a selection as possible. Most of the songs have been written in the last two or three years but even the foray into the mid '90s with Townsend's classic "How Deep The Father's Love" is given a fresh country-fried and up tempo version from Kelly Minter. Paul Oakley shows he's still on top form with two beautiful and God exalting songs ("Beauty Unspoken" and "Looking In The Sky").
