Worship Central are right at the forefront of the UK's current contemporary worship scene and if you only buy one worship album this year, this should really be it. Every track is a cracker, both musically and spiritually. All these songs will transfer easily to congregational worship being strong enough to do without the big production you find here, but of course, it's great to hear such a wonderful collection of uplifting and beautiful anthems sung and played with such power. The standout anthem for me is Ben Cantelon's "Guardian", taken from his album 'Everything In Colour' and here given the rock treatment with less rhythm guitar and more bass and drums. Love these lyrics. Ben closes the album too, with "The Same Power", a crescendo of unashamed praise declaring the power of the resurrection is in us too! Nikki Fletcher gets to calm things down a bit with two slower numbers: "Draw Me Close", beautifully arranged with piano and cello, and "Dry Bones", a passionate entreaty for new Spirit-filled life. They have included the already-classic "Hallelujah" by Ben Cantelon: simple words but essential worship. Tim Hughes features on many of the songs as they seem to be approaching songwriting more as team effort nowadays. Tim wrote the title track and he has obviously taken a long hard look at the pop scene before writing this. It's so catchy with its dance beat, synth sound, rapping and simple, repetitive words. Good for him - Christian music needs to be right in there with our contemporary culture. Miles Dhillon gets another chance for some powerful rapping in "Our Generation", written with a heart for the aspirations of young people.
