Gospel singer Keith Johnson started singing at the age of five as a member of his father's quartet the Spiritual Voices - that's where he acquired the nickname 'Wonderboy' due to his vocal ability. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Keith grew up with a passion for music, playing drums at church at the age of six and later bass guitar. Now not only an accomplished singer/songwriter with many credits to his name Keith Johnson is also a successful actor. Having made numerous albums (unreleased in the UK) Keith now offers this set. It begins with a true foot-stomping number "Thank You For What You've Done" which wouldn't have been out of place on the sound track of the movie The Blues Brothers. Following this with the wonderful backing of the Spiritual Voices (of which Keith's father still plays an active role) things slow right down with the passionate and testimonial "He Made A Way". The songs flow and the musical influences are evident from the soulful, clap-along "He's Been Good" and the Motown-sounding "He Will See You Through". Then we're hit with gospel blues as Keith sings "God Is Able". If I'd have lost interest midway through this excellent collection of songs (which I didn't) I'd have missed out on the excellent Stevie Wonderesque "Give It To Jesus" which is a must listen, as is "Alright" before wrapping up with another blues number "Help Me To Stay Saved". Maybe gospel isn't to your taste, well, if that's the case but you do happen to like a bit of R&B, jazz, blues, soul or Motown I'd encourage you to give it a listen. I'm glad I did.

Gospel veteran offers eclectic mix of styles.

The southern gospel tradition is alive and well and lives on in its premier torchbearer, Keith Wonderboy Johnson. From a native New Yorker come some of the newest sounds on the gospel quartet scene with Johnsonís second title on Verity Records.
The sounds and styles are diverse throughout Ė from the mid-tempo hand-clapper He Made A Way, the mellow and stirring Godís Got A Blessing For You, the uplifting Heís Been Good with an infectious riff you wonít soon forget, and the energetic album closer Thank You, Johnson does not fail to inspire. A crucial thread remains consistent: lifting Him up and bringing praise to His name.
New Season, Keith Wonderboy Johnsonís outstanding 2004 album, garnered a myriad of accolades including a 2005 Stellar Award nomination for Traditional CD of the Year. Considered one of the best and brightest talents in a field typically dominated by an older generation, Johnson is often cited as the heir to the recorded southern gospel legacy pioneered by such acts as labelmates The Canton Spirituals featuring Harvey Watkins, Jr. and John P. Kee

Keith Johnson music is an inspiration to southerners who have grown up on that type of music and now it has a twist. Good for you cousin - I am so very proud of you and your accomphlishment. Keep the music flowing, stay true to what is spiritual in our music.
