Based in Hamilton in Canada, this new band are part of a city wide movement to bring believers together, hence the name, and they are taking their fresh message of worship and community beyond their native shores with Kingsway giving them a big push in the UK. Here are six songs to introduce the world to the band who are frontman Elias Dummer, bassist Eric Fusilier, guitarist Aaron Powell and drummer Josh Vanderlaan. Musically they have a fresh uplifting anthemic, almost British sound with songs that draw the listener in and almost demand you turn up the volume and sing at the top of your voice. "Manifesto" is getting all the attention at the moment with its accompanying video and pulsating rock vibe and inclusion of the Lord's Prayer along the way. Often driven by Dummer's piano whether the band are drumming up a huge rock sound or going for something gentler on "Coming My Way" and the brilliant "What I Want", the band have a distinctive and compelling vibe. The City Harmonic are not creating what you'd class as straight forward congregational worship songs and yet people are drawn to the euphoria that seems to emanate from the band's approach. In some ways it's reminiscent of the Rend Collective Experiment and perhaps God is raising up a new wave of worship music that embraces a deeper community experience. Let's hope it won't be long before a full length album appears. I'm already hooked!
