Starflyer 59 have been releasing records since 1993 and are now back with their ninth full-length record. Signed to Tooth & Nail Records, Jason Martin and co have built up a decent following in the States and this album comes hot on the heels of the 2003 release 'Old'. The intro of opening track "Wake Up Early" kicks in, first with a solid drum rhythm and a mosh-inducing guitar riff. This is a raw record, full of sleazy guitar hooks and some classic rock melodies, enough to keep everyone from the old rocker to the more modern Britpopper happy. While SF59 have certainly got their own distinct sound, there are in places slight nods toward other bands; in particular the creepy atmosphere of Radiohead and the catchy hook of the Beatles in "No Revolution", plus the full on Led Zeppelin style riff-fest of "Sound On Sound". It is hard to tell how much spiritual meaning the songs carry, but the lack of obvious religious language in the lyrics would suggest the album is aimed at MTV2 land.
