4/10

Reviewed by Stephen Curry

This compilation pulls together various songs from the Maranatha Music!/EMI stable written over the last 15 years under the theme of 'God, I Need Hope'. It includes contributions from Don Moen, Robin Mark and Lenny LeBlanc but six of the 10 songs here are by those anonymous sessioners credited the Maranatha! Singers. While the concept is laudable, the result is an amalgam of unimaginatively produced and musically dated songs, particularly those offered by non-original artists. The more recent "Show Me Your Way" (2010) by Lenny LeBlanc manages to shine above the mediocrity with its infectious melody and the piano-based "All The Poor and Powerless" (2011) by worship leader Travis Cottrell also stands out with its emotional intensity. However, these tracks alone aren't able to raise the quality of this dull compilation.

Lenny LeBlanc, Maranatha! Singers, Robin Mark and others on worship compilation.

Life rarely turns out like we planned. Does that mean we give up hope? Not on your life! Even in the midst of what looks like hopeless circumstances, there is an unswerving hope that cannot be shaken, battered and bruised, but never completely wiped away. Hope is something we all need and can find in God's infinite love for us! This hope finds a musical voice through ten songs collectively gathered in God, I Need Hope.
