5 million selling American songwriter returns with a new collection of songs for worship. Ask Don Moen what he does, and the answer might surprise you. He won’t say he’s a songwriter even though he’s written more than 100 songs. He won’t say he’s a worship leader even though he’s led worship on every continent but Antarctica and recorded numerous albums. He won’t say he’s a businessman or producer even though as executive vice president for Integrity Media and President of Integrity Label Group he has produced and directed hundreds of projects that have helped make the company an industry leader. |

Reviewed by Mark Lawrence American worship leader and songwriter Don Moen has been a recording artist for over 20 years selling over five million albums in the process. This is an impressive CV but with the recent glut of worship leaders and bands releasing worship albums does Don Moen's latest offering have anything to offer an already saturated market? Well, on first listen the answer would have to be no, however, 'Hiding Place' is a grower. The catchy "'Fresh Fire"' and album highlight "Revelation Song" show off Moen's ability to write a simple yet powerful worshipful melody with a theologically sound lyric. Elsewhere though, there is a distinct lack of originality in the arrangements, although this is balanced by a live feel to the recordings that help the listener engage with the songs. Overall 'Hiding Place' is quintessentially a Don Moen album, solid and middle of the road. If you are a fan of Moen's you will know what you are getting but it is difficult to see 'Hiding Place' amassing a radically new fan base. More from Don MoenSee all...
