The musical partnership between Liverpool-based worship leader Ian Yates and Irish-born producer Trevor Michael, which so entranced those who discovered Ian's 2010 album 'The Hope And The Glory' album, is here taken to fresh heights. From the arresting opener where over a haunting musical bed a sampled preacher explains that, in the final analysis, Christianity is not a religion "but is the announcement of the end of religion" to the closer "You Are Here" which starts with a long fade in (one of Michael's favourite audio techniques), settles into a gently haunting piano figure, brings in Ian's husky staccato vocal and then builds relentlessly before cutting away with the emotive line "You're closer than the air I breathe" this is rich, deep, sonically satisfying worship music. To my ears the classic new song is "The Cross Changed Everything" which manages to be truly haunting yet eminently suitable for congregational worship. Almost as good is the funky pop rock cut "New". When Cross Rhythms reviewed 'The Hope And The Glory' we gave it a glowing 10 square review. We must now report that, if anything, 'Good News' is even better.

Latest album from the Liverpool-based worship leader.

Good News is the brand new album from Ian Yates. Good News contains songs of truth, hope, love and the announcement of the goodness of God.

This album was born out of a 2 year rediscovery of ‘What is the Good News?’ Ian says: “It’s been a fun journey. I don’t think I’ve cracked it yet, and I probably never will, but one thing I’m certain of is that the Good News is better than I ever thought it was. The Jews said it was a scandal and a stumbling block, the Greeks thought it was absurd and utter nonsense (1 Cor 1:23). Paul said that all would be judged according to his interpretation of the gospel (Rom 2:16). Paul also said that it was ‘The glad message of the glory of the happy God’ (1 Tim 1:11) If the good news doesn’t sound too good to be true we haven’t heard it right”.

We believe these songs carry strong biblical truth and the deep presence of God. We believe these songs are going to inspire, empower and impact many lives as people encounter and engage with a God who is full of love, kindness and mercy.
