This CD/DVD brings together four class acts of the Christian worship scene. Ben, Martin, Chris and Aaron each play three songs, their own material and others, in an intimate theatre setting in front of an appreciative audience. The first thing that strikes you with this album is the quality of the live sound recorded; the vocals are clear and warm, the guitars, drums and keyboards are distinct and loud within the mix, yet do not dominate, and the crowd can be heard in the background, meaning that although this is a live album the quality is as high as any studio recorded album. The sound engineers really have done a fine job. The second thing to note is the high standard of musicianship and charming choice of song arrangements. Older songs like "I Stand In Awe" are given a new lease of life, sounding more vital and fresh, the delayed electric guitar in particular on this song adds to the emotional impact. "God Of Justice", played by the impressive Aaron Keyes, is another track beefed up by the musicians on the stage, coupled with Aaron's delicious voice, this is a vibrant, multi-layered version of the song that slowly builds up and ends with all members of the band rocking out. The overall feel of the album is quite modern, being mainly keyboard and guitar led, with a tinge of rock; there is a heavy sprinkling of electric guitar, with added effects, throughout the album, and the percussion is quite earnest and hard hitting at times, making it more of an album to invigorate and arouse the Holy Spirit rather than a relaxing, meditative worship experience. The choice of songs are limited to the last five years or so, from people like Tim Hughes, Matt Redman, Brenton Brown and the performers themselves, which contributes to the modern feel. The accompanying DVD also makes for a great viewing experience, subtitles can be added so this would be useful for home group viewing or even to be played in church. Also, the range of songs on offer mean you can use the material in different situations, "O Church Arise" with Martyn Layzell is a more restrained track that could be played at an occasion that required more sombre reflection. So this is a joyous album full of great vocal performances and musicianship.
