If the sleevenotes didn't tell you, then the guitar sounds would: this CD may have a "2008" copyright, but the songs and sounds are from the late '70s and early '80s. The CD is a collection of songs from when these British rockers were gigging (including on Greenbelt's Mainstage) back then but a reformed version of the band only got round to recording now for nostalgists who remember them in their prime. The songs, thematically, are therefore less "this is my relationship with God" and more "here's some biblical truth" than you'd expect now. In places it reminded me of other classic bands from the era: Resurrection Band, 100% Proof, Rocksalt, Alwyn Wall Band (I could go on for ever). Being far from the time that most of these songs were created it's hardly surprising that some tracks don't stand up in 2008. But others do. "Love Makes The World Go Round" is good, as is "Never Go Back" - the latter having some very good guitar work on it, especially the final underpinning solo. "Finally Bought It" has an anti-consumerism theme that looked forward to the era that was coming, with a nice verbal twist at the end, and "Danger" and "Glad To Be Alive" stayed with me long after the tracks had finished. If you were around in the early '80s and remember Three Point Turn with fondness, then this surprise comeback album is for you.
