If you don't know what dancehall style means in terms of reggae it's pretty certain you won't like this and may even consider it to be a mutant form of music from some alien cultural planet. But if, like me, you've longed for a bit of JA authenticity to show though today's Christian music, this delightful selection of rapping/toasting by Jamaica's Fredrick Smith (DJ Stereoman) brings fresh impetus to the old, old story. Themes are as in-your-face as gospel gets while putting in a song "The Teachings Of Marcus Garvey" (Mr Garvey being the false prophet of Rastafarianism) shows considerable courage remembering that religions anger which touched Christafari a while back. "The context of my music, spiritually and culture, come about when I was saved a year ago," explains the Stereoman. "I grew up with reggae rhythms. Those rhythms stick with you forever." As someone who once, in pre-conversion days, wrote some reggae toons, I'll amen that.
