It’s really been the two previous ‘City On A Hill’ albums which have established Steve Hindalong as an ‘A’ list songwriter/producer. After years of pioneering alt rock with his The Choir band he hit paydirt with these two albums, selling in excess of 700,000 units. Like its predecessors, ‘The Gathering’ blends modern worship songs with traditional church hymns and again brings together some of the most effecting voices on the Nashville scene. This time we get Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer doing a spine-tingling rendition of “Kyrie Eleison”, FFH and Paul Colman calling us to the Lord’s Supper on “Table Of The Lord” and the hugely underrated Andrew Peterson telling the story of Abraham and Isaac on “Holy Is The Lord”. Hindalong, Daugherty and Byrd wrote the majority of the songs and the use of richly textured acoustic instrumentation is beautifully done. The standard has been maintained on this third and final album.
