'His Name Is Jesus' is the first of four CDs from worship resource The Kings Court. According to principal composer, American Will Goldstein, The Kings Court has over 2500 Christian leaders from around the world who use its music as a resource in their churches. 'His Name Is Jesus' is described as a "call to worship CD" and features a collection of simple melodies and lyrics based upon Scripture, such as Acts 2v1 ("Holy Spirit Come") and Luke 1v79 ("Give Us Light"). Musically the arrangements are basic and semi-classical, almost medieval in sound, with a collection of instruments ranging from the harp and mandolin to recorders and a cowbell! The most problematic feature is that the vocals are very ordinary and at times can grate a little which when added to almost demo like production gives the whole album a dated sound. In fact I could picture myself singing these songs back in the early '80s when the house church movement was taking off and choruses began to replace hymns in congregational worship. As an aid for meditation and worship The King's Court could be an aid to some. But there will be others who find the whole exercise somewhat uninspiring.
