Reviewed by Tony Cummings For my money Steve is one of the best songsmiths in the UK, a man who writes with head intelligence yet never fudges the spiritual insights behind layers of oblique metaphor. This new one shows up all of Steve's strengths, his winning way with a radio friendly hook, like the engaging "Finish Line" opener and his husky, sympathetic if understated accompaniments and ruggedly emotive voice are all well and intact. Compared with earlier albums there are more guitars on this set, which fits neatly between pop and roots acoustic in terms of a stylistic pigeon hole. (It was a great idea to get that fine axeman Dan Wheeler to add his talents to the sessions.) Powerful songs - try the haunting confessional "I'm OK" or Steve's look at the blandishments and temptations of the world, "Treasure". A good solid talent, our Steve.
