Reviewed by Tim Walker

This project arises from the charitable organisation formed in memory of Rich Mullins, after his untimely death last year. Judging by the sleevenotes, it's a concept album, with the story loosely resembling a "Pilgrim's Progress" translated to the American Plains - each song is a new "chapter" in the story. The overall sound is very American, but not in the production-line CCM sense; more rootsy, rather like a more polished version of Mark Heard's later albums. The instrumentation includes acoustic guitars, accordion, upright bass and brushed snare, with some fine vocals (including some Eagles-ish harmonies here and there). If 1 had to name influences, shades of the Eagles, REM, the Mavericks and the grittier American "country-rock" artists are discernible. I can see myself returning to this CD often; it's a worthy project, in aid of an equally worthy cause (Compassion USA Missions), and would not disappoint those inclining towards the above artists.
