One of the freshest and most exciting acts to arrive for years these guys from Atlanta, Georgia deal in high octane partying fun and, if you're up for it, this is the album to take you to iPod heaven. The riffs slam out with jarring, juddering power, the bawled vocals from the Old brothers consistently bite home, the album bristles with witty sides and samples and the whole thing is Beastie Boys updated for today's generation. With all the rock guitars and frantic rapping there are still plenty of clever production touches. I love the bit on "X-Girlfriend" where it cuts away to a vocoder falsetto refrain before returning to the belching funk metal. I love the way the track literally rewinds on "Put Ur Hands Up". Track four is more hip-hop/metal fusion with a sad tale of a trash-talking drama queen who hurt our hero. The tongue is a fire indeed. "Hold up, wait a minute, put a little love in it!" begins "Love Addict" with an anvil-heavy riff and the "love" of the title delivered with the kind of scream that would bring a smile to any Aerosmith devotee. "Love Addict" deals with the age old theme of being hopelessly drawn to a seriously cool girl while the more standard rock song "Earthquake" takes up a similar lyrical theme. "Numb" with its truly manic rap and ludicrously fast rhythm is an evocation of wanting to dance until your feet are as numb as they can get. Here's hoping 'Business Up Front, Party In The Back' is a huge hit. It deserves to be.
