If David Coverdale ever got saved and made an album it would sound like this! Red Sea are singer Robyn Basauri and guitarist Chris Howell and to be honest, it's a devastating combination. The blistering attack of the album's opening song "Soul Shaker" sets the pace for some serious air guitar opportunities! Basauri's voice is one of the hottest in Christian rock music, stretching and wringing every ounce of feeling out of each line. Occasionally this has a retro feel as the band are clearly heavily influenced by 70s rockers Deep Purple. Their tribute song "Shades Of Purple" is a perfect pastiche of the Deep Purple sound complete with Howell's Blackmore impersonations and DP song titles in the lyrics. Though they were their influences on their musical sleeves, Red Sea are no mere copyists creating a heavy rifted filled rock sound which will thrill any rock fan. Lyrically, they ain't Petra so there's no in yer face gospel lyrics. The band paint a picture of life's journey and songs give you a choice of destinations! The album's bluesy closer "Tears Of Joy" is bathed with the grace of God and proves that for Red Sea, the only way is up!

If you think gospel music, you think organs and choirs. Well, Red Sea is everything but that. It's got an old school rock feel to it, very high paced and for those who put a closer ear to their music; the gospel message is very clear. Over-all Red Sea is an excellent role model for Christian rock, please support them.
