With this their first time in a professional recording studio, Stoke-on-Trent's Lifecolour have recorded a hope-driven debut EP. The four-piece rock group spent a weekend at the ICC studios and have finished up with a commendable taster of what they are all about. At times you can hear elements of The Kooks and Leeland in what is an honest presentation of classic guitar-led rock songs heavily influenced by an American vibe. Produced and mixed by Pete Lewinsky, the sound on all three tracks is clear and sharp, suiting the excellent progressive melodies and catchy choruses. There is also a maturity in the lyric writing that belies the age of Sam Frawley and Sam Taylor. "Failure And Calamity Always Meet A Remedy" is the rawest track with some tight riffing on distorted guitars, but I enjoyed the other quieter tracks more as they included some pleasing variations in sound and tone. The vocals however were not as strong on these two tracks and sound a little thin. This three-track EP puts down a notable mark for Lifecolour to build on.
