Josh White leads the Door Of Hope church in Portland, Oregon and is best known to CCM followers as the frontman for the rock worship band Telecast. With this, his first solo project, he takes a stripped down, rootsy Americana approach to his worship songs which is thoroughly engaging. The title Achor references Hosea 2.15 where the Valley Of Achor (meaning trouble) becomes a door of hope. "Holy Ghost Revival" and "Let Me See Your Hands" make deliberate and definite nods to the traditional American blues and folk tradition, in tempo, style and in the use of a variety of plucked and blown instruments. Combinations of voices, harmonies, and instruments such as the cello and clarinet, are effectively employed in the other tracks alongside the guitar and occasional piano. From the simple lilting prayer "He Is Able" to the mellow "The Wall", from the tender but insistent "To Burn In You" to the quiet passion of "Our God Is Present" there is a progression and purpose in Josh's journey to know God better. This journey involves taking time to ride a slow train, ending with the laid-back "Be Still". The reward for time-travelling away from the pop rock comfort zone to something more organic is a truly faith-inspiring musical experience.

A solo Americana/roots project from the one time frontman of alternative rock band Telecast.

Josh White has been leading worship for the last 10 years throughout the West Coast of America. Most recently he was a pastor/worship leader at Solid Rock Church in Portland, OR, where he spend the last several years before planting a church in the southeast area of Portland. The album title Achor means “trouble” in reference to Hosea 2:15 “the valley of Achor as a Door of Hope.” This album has been birthed out of this process of learning more about Jesus and is an expression of growing closer to Jesus as the body of Christ.

This album is outstanding. I like the husky expressive singing of Josh White that is not loud but with deep emotion. (In that sense it reminds me of Leonard Cohen or Lou Reed). A lot of worship recordings of today sound for me a bit like the same. (I don't know if there is anything really new since Delirious) but this album is something special.
