If you are a Salvationist you will be very aware of the hymns and songs of the late, great Major Leslie Condon. Many have made it to the Salvation Army songbook and are still sung in citadels all over the UK. It's a shame that some of these stirring works didn't get heard outside of Salvationist circles - "The Firing Line" for instance contains three stirring songs "Under The Blood", "Fire Flag" and "Gird The Armour" while "Song Of Exuberance" shows Condon's wide understanding of different musical genres and even contains a solo based primarily on a bolero. Condon was based at Croydon Citadel for much of his time and the band here do justice to Condon's sometimes complex compositions and arrangements. The solos by Les Neish on tuba and Brett Baker on trombone are excellent and the occasional vocals from the Regent Hall Songsters add a further flourish to what is an impressive tribute to a godly composer.
