In recent years, Baltimore-based gospel artist Anthony Brown has become a Stellar Award winner and a Grammy nominee and his latest release sees the man's career continue to ascend. Proceedings kick off with a short spoken word bio from Brown as he sets out his stall for a collection of fairly lengthy songs where he acknowledges his feelings of fear and doubt when God seems far away but instead acts on what he knows to be God's truth. As a result, Brown packs a lot of differing emotions into these self-penned pieces ranging from joy in the self-explanatory opener "Glad" and the lightweight but fun "Na Na Ok" (subtitled "The Happy Song" just in case the listener doesn't twig) to gratitude in "Thank You" and loneliness in "Lost" - the latter featuring a star turn from Canadian rapper Sho Baraka. If recent reports are to be believed, Brown has been touted as the next Kirk Franklin and, as you would therefore expect, this is a slick affair containing the kind of ultra-polished soulful sounds that the modern gospel scene has become known for - helped no end here by Brown's backing troupe Group TherAPy who pull off accomplished and classy performances throughout. Guest vocalists Le'Andria Johnson and Jonathan McReynolds make cameos on "Consumed" and "Everytime" respectively to provide some additional variety on a release designed to help believers recognise their feelings and find true solace in God's promises when Sunday seems a long way away.

A LONG WAY FROM SUNDAY will be Brown's most introspective work as he explores through songs and concept music video presentations, the daily struggles that he considers as ongoing challenges for the believers and unbelievers as well. Understanding that we are more alike than we are different, through this new release, Brown and group therAPy will continue to encourage, uplift and identify with music lovers everywhere: because as soon as Monday comes, we're all A LONG WAY FROM SUNDAY.
