Forefront’s ‘8 Great Hits’ series claims to take a “closer look at some of the great Christian artists and songs that have become ’favourites’ for so many people.” Here Audio Adrenaline are the focus of attention, arguably one of America’s biggest Christian rock bands in recent years. Since forming over 10 years ago the band have released seven albums, most recently 2003’s ‘Worldwide’ – winner of Best Rock Gospel Album at the Grammy Awards. Which is why it seems strange that a CD supposedly containing a selection of Audio Adrenaline’s “great hits” covers only the first four of the band’s recordings. This isn’t to say that the songs included here aren’t among their best, but I am sure a more fair reflection of their finest work could have been gained had the more recent albums been included too. As it is we are treated to a generous portion of 1990s style Audio Adrenaline, including rocking opener “I’m Not The King” – a song that in places sounds like Audioslave before they even existed. “Big House” is the oldest track on the CD, from the 1993 release ‘Don’t Censor Me’. This was impressively named the CCM Number One Song Of The Decade for the 1990s.
