There's a lot to praise and some faults to find with this collection. There can be no complaint about value for money - usually you'd have to buy four or five CDs to get this much music. There's no problem with the technical quality, the vocals are strong and the instrumentation (mostly guitar, bass and drums) is adequate. All songs show sincerity and undoubted commitment. Worship leaders, especially with youth groups, should find this a valuable album for sourcing new material. But there are quite a few negatives - maybe there's just too many songs in the same genre to absorb at a few initial hearings. Perhaps there's too much of a generic modern worship flavour about the project - too much similarity of style. I was hoping for much more variety even within the limited genre. There are a few standouts here, Brenton Brown's "Everlasting God" is a good attention-getter; Brooke Fraser's "Desert Song" still rings true; "Mighty To Save" is always energising. But most of the tracks I like best are on CD two, including a modern version of "Amazing Grace", Karl Jobe's "No Sweeter Name" and "Happy Day" by Ben Cantelon and Tim Hughes. "Glorify" on CD three also caught my attention for its soulful vocals, while the choral work on "Before The Throne Of God Above" was distinctive. And there's a nice reflective quality about the last three tracks on disc three. The album design is attractive, with bright and colourful artwork, but the credits were seriously lacking - on the sleeve the songs were credited but there is no indication of the source of the recordings. When are record companies going to finally stop packaging compilations like this?
