Reviewed by Simon Eden Hardcore rock that is driving, rhythmic and sweetly melodic. An unusual combination that is very refreshing in comparison. This is best listened to loudly and preferably live to get the full effect of the highly charged emotions. Musically brilliant, so why did they have to spoil it? Depressing lyrics such as "I don't like me, I despise me," and "Which hand shall I cut off/My life in shambles/I'll lose my life right here" are sung with backing vocals reminiscent of Marilyn Manson. Why? This album is lyrically self-obsessed and although Jesus is alluded to, he is not mentioned. Even the excellent solitary quiet track has questionable biblical understanding. We can expect great things from these four teenage guys in the future as they have the talent, but maturity has alluded them. This album is best kept in an angry teenager's bedroom. Blackmail and death are hardly uplifting, but perhaps in breaking out of a mould that is why it is so innovative. A brave or foolish experiment that didn't quite go right.
