Worship is looked at from a personal and Biblical aspect by the Irish worship leader.

A BIBLICAL AND PERSONAL JOURNEY IN WORSHIP.

This book is about worship. It’s about how absolutely important worship is and how, perhaps, it is the highest calling and occupation of the believer. But it’s not about excellence of musicianship in played and sung worship. It’s not about personalities or individuals, or specially gifted folks, or style, or technique. It’s not a ‘how to’ book, or a work book, or a ‘here’s a service schedule that’s bound to work’ type book. It’s about how God calls us all to be His worshippers and how, perhaps, every single one of us can, through a deeper understanding of worship, make an impact and a difference in the society in which we live.

Reviewed by Lins Honeyman

This immensely enjoyable book from the acclaimed Northern Irish worship leader aims to turn our perceived definition of worship on its head by highlighting that worship is less about what songs we write and sing - in the process blowing the whole old versus modern argument out of the water - but more about the heart behind our worship. By skilfully expounding several Old Testament passages with his conversational and accessible writing style, Mark goes on to explore the Biblical truth that everything in the Christian's life should be an act of worship and that God desires the heart behind the output over the output itself. Elsewhere, Mark gives some fascinating insights into high points in his own career such as the 'Revival In Belfast' album and the creative process behind the hugely popular "Days Of Elijah" but only to show how God tends to choose the most unlikely people to do his work - as per the oxymoron contained within the book's title. Mark comes to the conclusion that the very spiritual health of the Church is dependant on its heart of worship and that God calls us all to be worshippers in the widest sense, regardless of our talents and abilities. A challenging and essential read for all members of the body of Christ - not just worship musicians.
