Recognising the struggles and constant battles that are part and parcel with Christian faith, Canada-based Steve offers songs of encouragement, challenge and acknowledgement of the authority of God. Produced by Philip Janz, the recording is far from a one man show with accompaniment and assistance coming from well known figures Brenton Brown, Jeff Deyo and Kathryn Scott along with a significant all round contribution from Brian Doerksen. The progressive "Forgive Us Lord" is one such song, in which the plea for God to have his way is made whilst confessing the need for spiritual breakthrough. Led by a young lady from Mitchinson's local church, "Great Romancer" speaks of the relationship between God and his bride, a moment showcasing both writing and the compelling artists' ability. Somewhat of a shock to the ears is the alternative version of "How Great Thou Art". Led by scorching guitar work, the old hymn takes on a different appearance and will split opinion as to whether it is an energetic revamp of an old classic or a crass mauling of a timeless hymn. With the inlay packed with insightful notes, song comments and related verses this is an excellent worship resource.
