Following hot on the heels of their last studio record 'Time', Third Day present us with their first worship album. Part studio (produced by Monroe Jones) and part live (recorded by the band themselves), 'Offerings' sees the American rockers in fine voice and strong focus, giving us 11 worship songs. The band have already taken tentative steps into worship territory with their recording of Michael W Smith's "Agnus Dei" on a compilation album, and the incredible "Your Love, Oh Lord" on their recent album. Both tracks are captured live on this new album and indeed the live material works exceedingly well, as singer Mac Powell gently leads the crowd. Standout cuts include the epic "Thief", which portrays the crucifixion of Christ from the point of view of the thief on the cross next to him. Beginning with gentle piano this builds up into a powerful climax. Another standout is to take Bob Dylan's 1980 classic "Saved" and turn it into a worship song, something that has also been done at the revival in Brownsville. It sounds great but then so does the whole of 'Offerings'.
