2001 was a pivotal year for Skillet, with the release of their groundbreaking album 'Alien Youth', establishing themselves as a major force in the Christian rock scene. Although the band are most associated with their distinctive barrage of drum, bass and overdriven guitars - as shown vividly in the opening track and "Vapor" - for me their softer touch was a more powerful one. "You Are My Hope" explores more personal lyrics delivered by a soulful John Cooper and the disc draws to a close with the exquisite, almost tear-jerking, "Will You Be There (Falling Down)" and "Come My Way". This double-disc reissue in the '2' series, however, not only pinpoints the start of Skillet's mass popularity, but also showcases in the same package their even more impressive followup, 'Collide'. Taking the heavy rock sound to an even greater level, more awe-inspiring lyrics and passionate vocals, their 2004 album features anthems like "Savior" and "Forsaken", but now offering a more eclectic range with the title track's orchestral edge. This double-whammy isn't just for Christian rock nostalgists, it's for anyone who enjoys spiritually enlightened hard rocking music.

Alien Youth CD
Panheads, rejoice! The invasion is here - the industrial band with a soft side has landed, bringing with it driving tracks to start a revival.
Collide CD
Riding the waves of their most successful release to date, 'Alien Youth', Skillet teams up with producer Paul Ebersold to offer yet another stylistic direction on their newest release, 'Collide'. Departing from keyboard driven sounds and delving into grittier guitar sounds, front man John Cooper lets his inventive juices go with reckless abandon and muscle bound authority. Superior songwriting dominates once again, this time propelled by thunderous instrumental clashes and deep-throated vocals. Discover Skillet's ability to reveal passion and hope through their latest musically intense, yet lyrically beautiful, work on 'Collide'.
