Stuart Townend, David Lyle Morris, Martyn Layzell - 4x4 V1

Upon seeing this package I must admit I was expecting just another collection of over released favourites, but I was pleasantly surprised. '4 X 4 V1' is the first CD in a new series from Kingsway Music. Each album offers four key songs from four well established worship leaders. Martyn Layzell of Soul Survivor fame opens with his classic "You Chose The Cross". From the excellent modern day hymn writer Mr Townend we have a quartet of classics which includes his evergreen "In Christ Alone". Among the songs Ms Latty offers us is the excellent "Lord I Come". Last but by no means least we have David Lyle-Morris singing two of his own songs, the anthem "Surely Our God (Revealer Of Mysteries)" and "The People Who Walk In Darkness", and, rather strangely, two David didn't pen - "Jesus All For Jesus" written by Robin Mark and "All The Way My Saviour Leads Me", words by Fanny Crosby and music by the late, great Rich Mullins. Great songs, but still why not four from Lyle-Morris? Apart from that one point I like the concept of bringing four such talented individuals together and providing a real taste of what they produce.
