Dove Award winning American trio Selah returns with a hymns album and considering that everyone from Amy Grant to Bart Millard to Out Of Eden have released hymns projects recently this is still a highly impressive venture. Songs like "How Great Thou Art" and "It Is Well With My Soul" are sang in Kituba, an African dialect from The Democratic Republic of Congo and give a whole new appreciation of African drums in the new versions of these hymns. "Amazing Grace" has a jazzy-soulish feel to it while the soft, gentle, rhythmic piano with wistful accompaniment in classic oldies like "O Sacred Head Now Wounded" remind us of the depth of Calvary. The vocals of Todd Smith, Allan Hall and Nicol Sponberg merge into acapella occasionally, producing a beautiful blend and creating a relaxed and restful atmosphere. All in all, if you desire freshness and something that will boost you in your intimacy with God, this album will not disappoint you at all.
